I've been in touch with a citizen group in san Francisco about park privatization and rental fees. I think you all need to see the description he provides. I'm withholding his name to avoid possible retaliation.
I'm forwarding this to the President of FOCP. "In San Francisco the Recreation & Parks Department has since 2009 laid off all our recreation directors, rehired some as facility supervisors or program coordinators, outsourced programming to both for profit and non-profit entities, leased out some public facilities to private firms, dramatically increased fees for using park space, escalated requirements for security and the corresponding charges when holding an event, and made some fees prohibitive to the point where some venues sit idle, and the head of the permits and reservations division formerly worked for the firm attempting to install artificial turf in public parks and play fields. But have not seen a blueprint for privatization. Looks like one though. What are you and folks you know doing to push back? It would be good to know what you guys are able to do."" ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
