Hello All, I apologize for pushing so hard on this - Kate finally explained to me that this hearing will simply be the defense attorney presenting what Kareem is choosing to do - either withdrawing his plea and going to trial, or scheduling a sentencing date. If Kareem requests a trial, the judge will have to allow that. So then at this hearing, the date of the next proceedings will be determined: either a sentencing, or a beginning of trial date. So please put your willingness on hold until I hear what those dates are - she said a sentencing could take place as early as next week. However, if it goes to trial, its likely to be pushed off for a few months.
Kate said that if anyone still wants to come, please do. It will be a very short proceedings. She will not be able to be there, and has told the ADA who will be standing in for her, Mike, that we may be there and to look for us. I will now think about whether I am going, just because I had to make some major arrangements about the rest of my life that would probably do better with me stepping back in (my son is shooting a commercial! His first big one, and wants mom on the set....). There is still hope that the defense attorney will be able to persuade Kareem not to withdraw his guilty plea. We will be praying towards that end, for Kareem to see how it will not benefit him to go to trial. Again, sorry for not getting this right in the first place, and thank you for considering participating, and please hold that thought until we know more! We are still needed, just not on Friday!
