Does anyone think that tax deadbeats, other than those connected through corruption, don't pay interest and penalties at some point???
Many of you are aware that the city is also cheating many of us already with its zero tolerance policies. The city does not have any mechanism to correct its mistakes or deliberate cheating of powerless little citizens.
Last year, I was forced to pay property taxes with 5 years of interest and penalties because the city charged me for the taxes from the year I purchased a property in 2006. I was considered a tax deadbeat and was completely unaware of it! I had proof that I didn't owe anything for the year 2006, when I purchased the place in July. The city should have collected from the settlement agent or the seller. By waiting the 5 years to shift the costs and penalties to me, the statute of limitations would have prevented me from suing the settlement agent even if that were a viable option. Even with proof in my hand that I was being cheated, the rude tax worker told me "the computer doesn't care and the city will get its money."
Some of you may also be surprised by some of these zero tolerance tax policies when they come after you. Many of the tax deadbeats are dead or desperately poor. Any wealthy tax deadbeats or speculators are the only ones who will not pay many times the original tax debt at some point. Nutter and Penn are waging a propaganda campaign for their zero tolerance policies against little citizens to cloak their AVI corporate giveaway, and to pave the way for these ruthless debt collectors and massive cheating of powerless citizens.
