Subject: [UCNeighbors] West Philly Walkathon for Women and Girls!
Hello,
I am writing to spread the word about The Sojourner Truth Walk on
Saturday, May 4. It is a 5K walkathon through West Philly (starting
in Clark Park, circling Kingsessing and Malcom X Park, ending at
Calvary.) The event is meant to honor and inspire the leadership of
women and girls, and support the work of Camp Sojourner, Girls'
Leadership Camp. Participants are encouraged to walk in honor of a
woman or girl they admire. This is a family-friendly event--all are
welcome! Register online at stayclassy.org/GLC.
Following the walk will be a finish-line celebration at Calvary from
12:15 to 2:00pm. The celebration will feature music and speakers,
including State Representative Vanessa Lowry Brown, Former State
Representative Babette Josephs, and People’s Emergency Center
Director Farah Jimenez; performers include the Ladies of Elegance
Step Team and Play On Philly. A number of local nonprofit
organizations, including the Granny Peace Brigade, Media Mobilizing
Project, and Decarcerate PA will be part of the event.
Even if you can't walk, please come to the celebration event and
support Philly girls and women!

Camp Sojourner, Girls’ Leadership Camp, is a nonprofit leadership
development program for Philadelphia girls, which offers year-round
leadership workshops, service projects, and arts programming along
with a week-long overnight summer camp — all on a low-cost, sliding
scale for families.
