Dear Neighbors, Neighbors & sisters Eva & Esther Recio have roots in Spain and
jobs at local Universities (PENN & SJU). They are launching a summer program to
introduce cultural exchange and language learning. They start this summer with
12 Spanish students, ages 12-14, who need housing from July 17th to August
2nd.They hope to expand the program, so that by next year they can send kids
from our neighborhood to Spain. The Recios are seeking housing in West
Philadelphia, close to Calvary at 48th & Baltimore.
There is a stipend to the Host Families of $450.00 to help cover the expenses
of Room & Board.
The goal is immersion in our culture and the English language, so the best
homes might have kids in the same age range. Hosts will provide meals with
conversation, and must pack typical lunches on weekdays. The kids will be busy
with classes & field trips on Weekdays. One goal is to have the Host families
include the kids in their weekend activities.
Students will come with health insurance.Esther Recio is hosting an
informational meeting in her home at 4815 Trinity, on Saturday June15th, at
1:00pm, with a Taste of Spain lunch. The kids have been studying English classes
in a language school , which is a cultural project of the city hall of the town
of Cabrerizos in Salamanca (Spain). If you want to know more, in Spanish,
below are some info about the language school:

I am only a messenger, (although, I may house a kid, as I'd like to be part the
cultural exchange and dust off my basic Spanish.)
If you have interest or questions, please contact Esther directly at
