I live on the 4700 block of Kingsessing Avenue. We have been having problems with people drinking, etc. on the steps of the abandoned church on the southwest corner. Tonight at about 10:15, we were watching from our porch as a guest walked to her car. Just as she opened the driver's door a man ran at her car from the second set of steps. He sort of threw himself at the car and we do not know if he tried to open the passenger's door. We screamed and he and two others (possibly one man and one woman) who were sitting on the steps took off towards 47th Street. Our guest pulled away as soon as she felt him hit her car. She called when she was a few blocks away to say that she saw the other two people get up from the steps and leave with the guy. Unfortunately, we cannot give a good description because it was very dark. Please be careful if you walk this way at night. Trash suggests that the steps are a frequent stop for late night visitors. Since the church is abandoned, the area is overgrown and dark.
