Hi! We got the YouCaring website set up. I just made a donation
and it works. Please share this link with your networks. This
family needs to pay the needed rent by Friday, February 10th. Thank
you so much!
I have already received $40 cash and an Aldi's gift card. Thank you
all so much. The Sharisi family is so thankful!
Thanks in advance,

Hi Veronika! Great questions! We (Paige as a friend, and I as an
"American Friend" refugee volunteer) are definitely working with the
family to avoid this from happening in the future. They have not
been able to pay the rent because the apartment that was made
available to them by their resettlement organization is too
expensive for them, as the parents have not been able to find jobs
yet (mom has a parttime job which is great, but unfortunately it
pays very poorly and is far away). We are helping them with
arranging finances/taxes etc., the housing situation, and finding a
(better) job, but right now we are at all cost trying to avoid that
they get evicted. If you have any more questions, please feel free
to email us, we'd be happy to tell you more!
Thank you for considering helping this West Philly family! If you
want to help out in other ways (bringing a meal, taking them to
neighborhood resources in the neighborhood like 2nd mile or the
Nesthing house, help dad with English lessons, etc), let us know.
You also may meet them at Malcolm X park or at the library. They
would love to get connected with more neighbors!
Thanks, awesome West Philly community!

can you set-up a fundraising site where people can easily donate?
YouCaring perhaps? If everyone gives just $20 or whatever they can
afford, this family will be helped a lot! I'm also wondering if
they have income to be able to pay for March and other months into
the future so they don't fall into the same cycle.

I have written on here before for clothes and things for a refugee
family that moved here from Afghanistan in September. Her first 3
months rent here were covered by a refugee organization, but now
they are behind on rent. They need to pay half a month for
December ($450) and January ($900) and February ($900) for a total
of $2,250 by the end of next week or they will be given a notice to
move out in 10 days and then be evicted. I know this is not a sight
for fundraising, but I know that a lot of you are interested in
helping refugees and this is a tangible way to be able to help. If
you are able to help, please email me. Anything can make a
Thank you in advance for your generosity in this time of need.
