You must not have read my whole message!  In any case, the old artwiz cursor is 
not compatible with xorg 7.0.  Either just the paths have been moved around, or 
xorg 7.0 no longer supports setting the cursor by replacing the pcf font file 
in favour of the newer, better libxcursor.  We should file a separate bug 
report upstream to convert the artwiz cursors to the icon format compatible 
with libxcursor.

BTW--the easiest way to repackage is to apt-get source <package>, remove the 
update-alternatives line, then dpkg-buildpackage again from that.  It won't 
help you at all in this case, however, other than letting the package install 
cleanly (and do nothing).
