Ok, if I do:

$ export SmartEiffel=/usr/lib/smarteiffel/sys/system.se

then all works perfectly (smarteiffel.sh and se-compile).

I think /usr/bin/smarteiffel.sh file must set the SmartEiffel environment 
variable correctly (for example, changing it's 6th line).

By the way, when I compile using smarteiffel.sh (following the procedure I use 
in the bug report, above), when I type "5" to compile the system, I got an 
error message:

gcc: unrecognized option '-c_code'

although it does it's job (compiles the system well).
