That sounds reasonable. Rejecting, with the following notes:

*) Debian unstable has now has a BOINC package which builds against wx2.6, this 
will presumably appear in Universe for Dapper+1. The original poster may like 
to try Debian's package in the meantime.

*) wxWidgets does not enable ODBC by default. Instructions about making your 
own wxWidgets build with Unicode and ODBC are at 
<http://www.wxwidgets.org/wiki/index.php/ODBC>.

*) Unicode is now an integral part of Ubuntu. Where software components have a 
non-Unicode dependency, the correct fix going forward is to change the software 
which has the dependency, not the dependency itself.

*) Both breezy and dapper include a non-Unicode build of wxWidgets 2.4.
