It seems to be fixed for Gutsy, by having merged the new Debian version, where they switched to the conf.d behaviour (and use a .ini file). See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=402020 for related Debian bug (not about "-e" though).
