I get the same with flightgear 1.91 in Karmic and kernel 2.6.31-17-generic. The
sound sometimes comes back intermittently but most of the time it is crackly or
completely silent..
When I remove pulse audio the sound in flightgear works properly. Exactly the
same applies in Second Life as well.
In flightgear if I try to end it while the sound is bad, it freezes. If it is
in windowed mode I can kill the fgfs process with the aid of System Monitor
and/or terminal. If I end flightgear when the sound is in a good state, it ends
without freezing.
After having to kill fgfs the gnome-screensaver wont start in gnome unless I
end the gnome-screensaver process and power-manager process then restart the
screensaver and power-manager from the gnome-screensaver Power Management.
This is probably a separate bug but it is affected by the flightgear sound bug
which in turn is caused by pulse audio.
