I tried right now, installing a vlc 0.8.6... and after with an 'apt-get install
vlc'
It seems it does the right thing, as the package libvlc2 (the subject of this
report) is marked with:
 Replaces: vlc (<< 0.8.6.c-6)
 Conflicts: vlc (<< 0.8.6.c-6)
that should resolve this issue.

Could someone please confirm this?

package libvlc2 None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/libvlc2.list] failed to
install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libvlc.so.2.0.2', which is also
in package libvlc0
