Hrm, too bad that the new driver didn't solve it - just to confirm, you
restarted X after installing them?
It may be worthwhile also testing the Alpha-2 LiveCD, since it includes
DRI2 which may provide some performance improvements on -intel. Would
you mind burning a LiveCD and seeing if you can reproduce the error on
it?
