** Description changed: I have an external monitor at work. I have edited my xorg.conf to get round bug #220563. Now, if I change the external monitor's resolution, it works, but only after I log out and log back in (or run /etc/init.d/gdm restart from the console). Before logging out and in, various bad things happen - e.g. the desktop on my laptop monitor only covers part of the screen and the rest is black. Or the desktop on my external monitor only covers part of the screen, and the rest is black. Or, my laptop screen is entirely black, I can move and see the mouse there, but if I drag a window onto that screen, it disappears. The same appears to happen more seriously with kernel 2.6.27-1 - i.e. it hung my computer. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub [8086:27a0] (rev 03) + Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2017] + 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03) + Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:201a]
