Thank you for joining the Ubuntu community in our effort to make Ubuntu better. You have chosen a performance problem with a driver as your first bug report, and those problems are among the hardest to debug and report properly. Some information about this can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance . Information on how to report bugs related to Xorg in general can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting . Any Xorg bug should at least have the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of `lspci -vvnn` attached to it. Another thing, since Jaunty is about to be released in a few days, not much effort is spent of fixing Intrepid. That being said, most people have not experienced any performance improvement between Intrepid and Jaunty. Actually, Hardy is better for many. Since Hardy is a Long Term Support release, you may want to try that if performance is important for you. Please take a look at the links above, and report back with the information that is required. I would encourage you to upgrade to Jaunty[*], as one of the first questions that are asked about a bug is whether it exists in the latest version. I would also encourage you to keep submitting bug reports even if this one does not get very much attention, due to the difficulty of the issue. [*]: There is currently a problem with freezes on the 965GM chipset in Jaunty, and therefore compiz has been disabled for this chipset (bug 363821). This should be only temporarily until bug 359392 is fixed. Many people are working hard on this.
