I installed the fglxr driver using apt (apt-get install xorg-driver- fglrx). This did not work and cause X to display incorrectly. I then (in recovery mode) did apt-get purge xorg-driver-fglrx to remove it. On trying envyng again, because the packages were already installed, envyng only configured xorg.conf for me. The fglrx driver is now working.
