The ME6000 is a 600MHz CPU. For 1GHz, you'd need the M10000 (which isn't fanless if that's an issue for you).
I run Win2K Pro on a 533MHz EPIA 5000 with just 256MB RAM. It runs fine as a general household email & file server. It also runs an Oracle database and a Xitami web server. That said, I don't know how responsive it would be as a desktop machine. And of course WinXP is a much worse resource hog than Win2K.
