It wouldn't be any good. All it does it covert the rpm to a deb package. It doesn't change any of the redhat specific things in the package. As a result, you end up with things going into weird directories, startup scripts not working etc.
There is someone working on a Debian package atm - he was asking questions in Developers about Perl modules only last week. As for nightlies, Subversion is your friend!
