I have been reading on the linkstationwiki.org forums that a number of people are having trouble installing any new firmware on some of the HG Linkstations - and ending up with a brick.
The inability to be able to do this means that you wouldn't be able to do things like install slimserver. It appears to only be a problem with a certain range of serial numbers - but it's not clear which are safe and which are not. (I was lucky) It's not clear whether Buffalo are planning on fixing this for any future versions but for now it's probably worth steering clear.
