The Gigabit Linkstation (HD-HG) also supports 1000-base-T (faster ethernet) that the HD-H does not have (as far as I know).
I just finished installing SlimServer on my HD-HG250. I only have about 75 albums ripped at this time, but so far the performance has been good (good response time, no dropouts) even over a wireless LAN. I would recommend staying away from the HD-HG300 at this time, as the instances of "bricking" (mentioned above) these seems to be much higher than in the HD-HG250. If you do decide to get an HD-HG you will need to install OpenLink from the Linkstationwiki.org site in order to gain telnet access.
