You don't say what flavour of Linkstation you have but, if it is one of the older versions, it won't be able to handle running both Slimserver and MM at the same time - the specs aren't up to it.
If you want to run SS on your Linkstation and MM on your PC, this is the best way to get your playlists across and converted that I found: Create playlist via MM and save to your PC (desktop is good). Open up playlist with a text editor like Notepad, and look at the path of the file. MM may see your Music Library as as networked share (i.e. "T:My Music"). So if you look at the path of a song in an MM playlist it shows "T:My Music\Album\Track.mp3". SS on the other hand probably sees the path to the same song as "\\server\My Music\Album\Track.mp3". In order to get the playlist to work in SS you need to convert the path. A good way to do this is to download M3Uconv (http://www.joejaworski.com/m3u/) which was designed to do just this. In the rules set T:\My Music to change to \\server\My Music, browse to the playlist you created and tell it to convert the file and save a converted version to the playlists folder you have pointed SS at. Delete the original playlist. Tell SS to rescan playlists only. Takes about 8-10 clicks in total.
