I did find some instructions for installing on Ubuntu (probably from the
threads you are referencing) which got me mostly working, however my
playlists never worked at all under 6.2.1. When they released the .deb,
I uninstalled my tarball and deleted my slimserver user and installed
the .deb from the repository and everything just worked, including my
playlists. Yay.

I realize there is nothing forcing me to upgrade. It would just be nice
to be able to add a stable repository so that new stable releases of
slimserver get magically upgraded with my other packages. Slimdevices
seems to be on this path, so I'm happy!
