This is a great post and has allowed me to get my Apple Lossless files up and running on SuSE 10. I am, however, running into a problem trying to use lame to do bitrate reduction. I'd like to get this working so that I can stream my music at work.
I have setup convert.conf as instructed. I then downloaded and installed lame 3.97b using the rpm file found at. http://tinyurl.com/oapq7 Slimserver reports that lame appears to be installed correctly. However, if I turn bitrate limiting on and attempt to play a file using softsqueeze, all I get is loud static.
