In addition to the FreeNAS project that Dragon mentioned, there are a handful of NAS products that work with SB. Check out the wiki, especially http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BeginnersGuideToServers for a summary and some useful links. I've been happy running SlimServer on a Buffalo LinkStation HD-HG250.
