Hi all,

The short story: after too much messing around with my Slimserver
installation on Ubuntu Dapper, it will let me neither install or remove
the slimserver package.

$ sudo apt-get remove slimserver
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package slimserver is not installed, so not removed
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

$ sudo apt-get install slimserver
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package slimserver is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package slimserver has no installation candidate

The long story: I first installed Slimserver 6.5b1 on Ubuntu Breezy
using the deb package, all went fine. When the problem with empty left
panel appeared (as reported in
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=113156), I decided to
wait for a post confirming that the problem was fixed. In the mean
time, I upgraded my system to Dapper. Then I got impatient and decided
to try to get a stable 6.2.2 running. First I tried Alien on the RPM,
but failed, then I downloaded the sources and after a bit of fiddling I
got it working. Two days ago I came across a post announcing a stable
6.5b1 deb, but installing it gave the above error. Moreover, my source
perl installation stopped working too. Does anyone know how I can start
from a clean slate again?

Thanks a lot,
Greg
