Ok, I suggest you try this:

1. stop slimserver
2. Take a copy of your prefs file
3. Edit your prefs file and remove the lines beginning with "db", eg.:

dbpassword:
dbsource:
dbusername:

4. Restart slimserver.

This should cause slimserver to startup its own version of MySQL.
