Do you reckon there's anything to be gain by running it from a compact flash card?
As most CF cards can be expected to be slower than a harddisk, it takes longer to boot. OTOH running SlimCD/DSL from CF allows for shutting down the hd when not used. This reduces the energy consumption and lowers the noise. I'm doing this in my SlimCD based server: the hd only contains the music collection and is mounted read only. I do not even care too much about shutting it properly down as everything is written to ramdisk, not to hd or cf.
