What's the status of this effort? I'd be happy to help.
I'm confused by this:

Revision 7808
Bug: N/A
Description: Remove DBD::mysql & GD depend for right now - older Fedora
systems don't have those packages.

AFAICT, perl-DBD-MySQL (note mixed case) has been in Fedora Core since
FC1 and perl-GD has been in Extras since it was introduced with FE3
(and probably in fedora.us before that).
What's the big picture goal here? To eliminate the the entire
slimserver/CPAN directory? Or just slimserver/CPAN/arch? Or neither?
I agree with the suggestion to create a slimserver yum repo. Any CPAN
modules not available in Core or Extras could be built and placed there
so that yum can pull them in as necessary. You could also encourage
plugin authors to create RPMs and upload them (along with any other
dependencies.)
