Dave, I hear what you are saying and appreciate your position, however,
after almost 15 years on Windows-something-or-other I just cannot
stomach it any longer.

Put simply I find Windows inherently unstable, generally slow and
persistently self-corrupting given (a little) time.  I'm also sick to
death of Redmond doing stupid shit like wanting to access the net when
all I want to do is search for files on my desktops/server.  Whilst I
may face some short-medium term sacrifices in conveninence terms by
running Linux, it's a price I'm willing to pay to compute on my own
terms and to know that my data is not tied to someone's proprietary
formats.  Don't get me wrong I've nothing against MS, I've just chosen
to enjoy my computer and data without them.
