Dave, I hear what you are saying and appreciate your position, however, after almost 15 years on Windows-something-or-other I just cannot stomach it any longer. Put simply I find Windows inherently unstable, generally slow and persistently self-corrupting given (a little) time. I'm also sick to death of Redmond doing stupid shit like wanting to access the net when all I want to do is search for files on my desktops/server. Whilst I may face some short-medium term sacrifices in conveninence terms by running Linux, it's a price I'm willing to pay to compute on my own terms and to know that my data is not tied to someone's proprietary formats.
