I'm not at home where my Ubuntu box is, so I can't confirm that
it's missing from my Service gui too, tool (OK, I could VNC,
but I'm in a hurry). However, slimserver is very much listed
on my Fedora4 machine and I don't think Ubuntu/FC4 differ enough
here to expect not to see it when I return home. Let me know if
you would like me to check.
One thing to realize is that if a 'random' program (like
slimserver) can overwrite/change your DNS entries without your
knowledge/permission, that's a fairly *enormous* security hole.
Someone could redirect/intercept all of your traffic as a
result. This would obviously be a Bad Thing. (I am not a
networking expert or anything close to it, so .<- grain of salt.)
