I'm tracking this down, but wanted to say thanks for the offer of assistance. It's great that people are helpful here!
I've been able to determine that it seems to be specific to AAC files, and that the AAC-MP3 encoding option doesn't work (gives an error that something is not found). I'll try reinstalling. I am also trying the network test - although it could be better, it seems to mostly do 320 kbps with no problems, but above that seems to drop. So it may be a wireless issue, but I don't want to fiddle with that until I've tried to fix the AAC issue. (This apartment may not do well at stringing ethernet throughout, or at least, not easily.)
