The normal term is "distribution" since that is the main distinction. Distributions have names like Ubuntu, SuSE, Fedora, Mandriva, etc. The number one criteria is: Do you have a buddy who uses one distro or another? Can you buy them a beer in exchange for consulting? If so, use that one. All of them have easy to use GUIs. or at least all of the mainline ones.
