Hi again,

I raised the above issue in a post some months back. Those with
knowledge suggest that implementation of this idea isn't feasible at
present, without major changes and extra expense.

I use ubuntu 6.10 and slimserver. I find it exactly suits my
requirements and I now rarely use my cd player (Arcam 93T). I also use
the web interface for some funny reason. I enjoy the slimserver as a
source rather than direct from my computer as the sound seems better.
My Ubuntu system has been very reliable and slimserver is so very
boring as it works without fault. Everyone in the house has easy access
to lots of music with little effort.

I have a computer in my living room. This is a quite up to date small
unit which is next to quiet. The main problem is the noisy HDD. The
processor is an intel dual core which runs cool and will run fanless if
I want. I use a laptop hdd now which is very quiet.
