Right... in that case, I think the problem is that python isn't configured properly, and the script can't access the http server even though the server is running properly. This probably needs to be fixed by fixing python, which is a bit beyond my ability in an unfamiliar distribution. I'd suggest at least updating to the latest version of python, especially whichever package provides /usr/lib/python2.4/httplib.py
