What do you mean by "can see the files in the file browser"?

In any case for full read/write access to your ntfs-drives you could
perhaps look into ntfs-3g. It easy very to use and setup on feisty.

Basically you would use ntfs-3g to make your ntfs-drives appear as
regular directories in ubuntu. I.e. at some mountpoint, e.g.
/home/username/mountpoint, and then point slimserver to that directory.
