Ubuntu 6.06 LTS - Supported to 2009 Ubuntu 7.04 - Supported to 2008 The "LTS" version of Ubuntu receives long-term support. 3 years for desktop versions and 5 years for server versions. So the 6.06 is indeed in theory more stable and longer supported. However I saw that Ubuntu 7.04 will be installed on DELL computers, so I think that the stability is ok (2 months after release). See here for some of the new features in 7.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/704tour In principle things are only getting easier to migrate from windows with each new release. I had 'problems' like you with mounting in 6.06 which worked out of the box in 7.04. The only disadvantage for upgrade that I see is to have to reconfigure your system again (like loading codecs, fonts, installing slimserver etc;). It is possible to upgrade by the update manager, however I had always issues with the upgrades this way and I did a fresh install of 7.04.
