I know for a fact that SlimServer will not work with MySQL 4.0.x. It
*may* work with 4.1.x and definitely does with 5.x. My experience has
been with Solaris 10.

For awhile I ran a zone (virtual server) to allow my wife to access her
iTunes via SlimServer. I had my SlimServer instance running int he
global zone and hers in another zone. To reduce overhead I setup MySQL
in the global zone to be the only instance of MySQL running. I followed
the wiki for using your own instance of MySQL and had two different
databases with no conflict. I just called my database 'slimserver' and
hers 'itunes'.

Easy as pie.
