I think I understand...

You have a LinuxMint OS and somehow got the SS 6.3.0.

Did you add the Slimserver repositories that snarlydwarf mentioned?

Or did you install from the official Ubuntu repositories?

Ubuntu official is usually a different version than that available from
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com/ stable main.

I would first 'apt-get --purge remove slimserver' in a terminal.

Maybe reboot...?

Then either in a terminal or in Synaptic Package Manager (assuming
that's in LinuxMint) add the Slimdevices repositories at snarly's
suggestion, reload or apt-get update, then install 6.5.2 or 6.5.3 from
'stable' or 'main' respectively.

If that doesn't work, find those '*slim*' files and clean up or even
just maybe reinstall the whole shebang if your not that far into a new
install... but that last resort seems a bit extreme.
