I did: chmod a=rwx -R /opt/share/ss65 and now slimserver is working on my nslu2. I still get some errors in the log (see below) but I can scan my library and my squeezeboxes can play and search music. I should be able to fix the playlist permissions error, but I am not sure about the other errors. Playing works fine, but menu operations are slow. It takes up to 7 seconds for the next menu item to appear or the next action to occur after I select something. I have about 5000 songs in 400 albums. cpu usage while playing is less than 20 %. It goes up to 60 % when doing directory operations. I am also running slimserver on a 450 mhz pentium II and with it, menu actions are instantaneous. This system only draws 60 watts, so I may stick with it. This system is not any faster for ftp file transfers than my 266 mhz nslu2.
