You will find no difference (in practical terms) between most of the free distributions and RHEL, apart from the hole in your wallet! :) Indeed, RHEL5 is essentially Fedora Core 6 - a free distro. Also, CentOS is a free version of RHEL - essentially identical, apart from the branding (and the cost). When it comes down to it, you've got just the same free software packages on RHEL - you've still got to have a certain amount of knowledge to get Slimserver installed. So, in answer to your question (or rather, a slightly different question), there is no reason why Slimserver will not run on your new PC any differently than under FC6, or CentOS5.
