Thanks a lot, signor_rossi.

Installing MPlayer will be another challenge :P
If possible, I'd like to use mac for linux for it's compact and looks
like I have installed it right.

The SS web interface will reject any impossible tuning on the convert
setting (i.e. give error message and force to un-check). So I believe
the setting to do ape-->wav is accepted. And in the convert.conf I
found the '[mac] $FILE$ - -d' line. That should be ok.

Just tried to do 'mac "sample.ape" "sample.wav" -d' on the machine and
found as follows:

1. It takes about 80 seconds to de-compress a 228 sec ape file on my
kuro-box.
2. The come out sample.wav can be played on SB3 no problem.

This should confirm that:

1. mac for linux installed OK.
2. the converting speed should be good enough (?)

So, what should I do? Try to edit the convert.conf file?
