having an issue with duplicate entries in my library.

setup is this:

server running Ubuntu 7.10, SqueezeCenter 7 (recent build 16819) w/
Netatalk and Samba for filesharing. the relevant HDD is formatted w/
XFS (significant, I think).

I'm using iTunes as my media manager from a Mac.

I moved my library from the Mac to this psuedo-NAS/SqueezeCenter server
yesterday using the library consolidation function in iTunes.

the issue is that as the library was moved, every directory that was
created on the NAS contains a .AppleDouble subdirectory. the
.AppleDouble directories contain 1KB files that mirror the files (same
filenames/extentions) in the directory itself, i.e. each album dir
contains a subdirectory with *.m4a files exactly the same as the album
directory. when I scan the library, 2 entries are added for each file
(interestingly, both entries seem to play correctly).

the only relevant thread I could find is:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27174&highlight=.AppleDouble

it's somewhat dated, but seems to indicate the directories can be
ignored. I believe this is the cleanest solution, because near as I
can tell, the .AppleDouble dirs are a meta-data artifact of OSX using
unix filesystems (including XFS), and are not going away in my setup.
I can delete the dirs, but the are still created when adding files/dirs
from the Mac, i.e. each time I do a new import, the subdirectory is
created along with the import files.

any ideas on how I can ignore these dirs/files?
