What version of SS are you using? Are you installing from RPM or some other method. With SS 6.5.X, the init script in the RPM is known to not fully work with SUSE. There are some contributed SUSE init scripts if you search the wiki.
If you are willing to try the new SqueezeCenter 7.0 (which is very close to official release), that RPM has a SUSE compatible init script.
