All "force" does is to make CPAN install the latest version of the 
module even if it detects that it is already installed. It's nothing to 
worry about.

No, it's detecting the problem in one of the Slim modules, but the 
actual issue is in the OS perl install.

It's a bug or "feature" in that version of perl on Redhat.
