Sorry, don't know what's going on.  I run with my /usr/local partition
as read only, and while there is a
/usr/local/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs, my actual preferences get
written to /var/db/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs.

This gets set up by an environment variable in the startup script
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/squeezecenter

So if you're using the above startup script, it shouldn't be looking in
/usr/local at all.  But it seems like it is.
