Different distributions have different ways to do things. As long as SC is run with locale set to utf8 (which should be standard with most recent Linux distributions), you should be fine. I'm no Linux expert. But one more thing that helped previously is prepending the startup command for SC with "LANG=en_US.UTF-8" (or similar).
