No, this is not normal.  There is a lot of debugging that could be done
to fix it, but it's probably easier to simply purge the package and
re-install (doesn't require reboot)

from a terminal:
sudo dpkg --purge squeezecenter
sudo rm -rf /etc/squeezecenter /var/lib/squeezecenter
