OK - I have fixed it. The apparmor hint put in the right direction, so
thanks.

Not sure exacly how I fixed it - this is what I think I did:

1. Stopped apparmor (as per the referenced thread)
2. Reinstalled Squeezecentre
3. No joy - the error in server.log changed back to same error that
started this thread.
4. Deleted (purged) apparmor
5. Reinstalled Squeezecentre - failed because apparmor was not present
6. Reinstalled apparmor
7. Stopped apparmor
8. Reinstalled Squeezecentre

All seems OK - I reckon I must have had a corruption in apparmor
somewhere.

PS - I did then have a permissions problem, Squeezecentre would only
see a fraction of my music - my music directories had taken on a random
set of permissions. chmod a+r solved it.
