Watching disk and network usage, I think the squeezecenter tries at or near each beginning of song to send a burst of data to fill the player's buffer, and then goes after it more lightly, just for refills. Until the next song. Perhaps your wifi configuration/hardware is flawed/incompatible and does not sustain the burst, while quiet browsing is ok ? You could try wiring the receiver to your server and see how things go with the controller either in wifi, or in pure bridged mode (which is ad-hoc net to the receiver I guess).
